Looe is looking for its next Town Crier

Somebody in Looe is about to trade a quiet weekend for a tricorne hat, a hand bell and one of the loudest voices in the county. Looe Town Council is hunting for its next Town Crier, and turning up with zero experience is fine, because none is needed.

What the role involves

The council is after an enthusiastic person who enjoys meeting people, supporting community events and representing the town. It is a voluntary position rather than a paid job, and the council is framing it as a chance to help preserve an important local tradition, with no background in the role required to be considered.

How to apply

Anyone interested is asked to email a few details about themselves and why they would like to become Looe’s next Town Crier to [email protected]. Applications need to be in before the closing date of Monday 19 October 2026.

Beyond that, the council has not set out what happens next, whether there is an interview, a trial cry, or simply a straight pick from the applications. For now, the only requirement is getting an email in before the 19th.
