The Truro home nobody is now allowed to enter

There is a notice taped to a board outside a block of flats in Truro this week, and it settles the question of who is allowed through that door for the next three months. The answer, in black and white, is nobody at all.

What the full closure order means

A residential property in Whitley Close, Truro has become a no-go zone after magistrates granted a full closure order on the address. No one, not tenants, not their guests, not anyone with a connection to the flats, is permitted to enter. The building has been fully boarded up and secured, with the order itself pinned up on site for anyone passing to read.

The action followed investigations by local police and council officials into reports of anti-social, threatening and nuisance behaviour connected to the property.

How the order escalated

This is not the first restriction placed on the address. The same property was subject to a partial closure order from 4 June this year, running for three months because of the impact it was having on other residents nearby. That partial order has now been replaced with a full closure, covering every person and every part of the premises, running for a further three months with total restrictions from Wednesday 2 September.

‘A positive outcome for the community’

Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Anna Elvans confirmed the scale of the restriction. “Under the terms of the order, no one is permitted to enter the property. The property has been fully boarded up and secured. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to achieving this positive outcome for the community,” she said.

Anna credited the wider team behind the case. “This outcome has been achieved through the relentless work and dedication of all those involved. I would particularly like to acknowledge the significant efforts of the local Anti-Social Behaviour Officer Stephen Lennon and Cornwall Housing officers, whose ongoing support and commitment have been instrumental in securing this result.”

“We don’t underestimate the distress caused to those living close to nuisance properties who suffer from any anti-social behaviour carried out,” she added.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence

Anyone who enters the property in contravention of the order is committing a criminal offence and can expect to end up in court. The warning printed on the notice itself is blunt: a fine, imprisonment, or both.

How to report anti-social behaviour

Anyone wanting to report incidents of anti-social behaviour or other crime can call 101, or visit the Devon and Cornwall Police website and use the Report button, which carries a specific form for anti-social behaviour. Information can also be passed on completely anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

There are also two chances to raise concerns with the local neighbourhood team in person. Officers will be running a pop-up surgery at Goonhavern Garden Centre on Newquay Road, Truro, from 10.30am until around midday this Sunday, 6 September. A second surgery follows at Perranporth Library on Boscawen Road, from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday 17 September.
