Padstow Sea Cadets needs a very different kind of recruit

There’s a group that meets twice a week down on Padstow’s South Quay, marching, sailing and picking up skills most of us never touch again after school. Padstow Sea Cadets runs almost entirely on volunteers, and right now it needs more of them.

What the unit is asking for

Two posters shared by the unit set out the appeal plainly: Padstow Sea Cadets is looking for enthusiastic and committed adults to volunteer as instructors, supporting both the Sea Cadets (aged 12 to 18) and the Junior Sea Cadets (aged 10 to 12).

Two ways to help

There are two routes in. Uniformed Instructors share their own skills and experience to inspire and teach cadets, with no prior experience needed and training provided. Non-Uniformed Instructors and Unit Assistants support cadets across a range of activities, help with administration, and keep the unit running smoothly day to day.

What volunteers get out of it

The posters list what’s in it for anyone who signs up: being part of a supportive team, making a lasting impact on young people, sharing your own knowledge and passion, and picking up new skills and experiences along the way. There’s also the chance to gain recognised qualifications that can strengthen a CV.
