Lower Anderton Road, Millbrook, closes around the clock

There will be no way through Lower Anderton Road for cars, vans or even bicycles for nearly three weeks this autumn, and the closure runs right through the night and every weekend in between.

Why the road is closing

Cornwall Council has made a formal traffic order to allow capital drainage works to go ahead on Lower Anderton Road in Millbrook. The order, titled the County of Cornwall (Lower Anderton Road, Millbrook) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026, was made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and signed off on 14 September 2026 by Vicky Fraser, Cornwall Council’s Service Director for Environment and Connectivity.

The council says the prohibition is necessary because drainage works need to be carried out on or near the road, and that the works are being delivered by Cormac Solutions Ltd.

When the closure runs

The closure covers Lower Anderton Road between the junctions with Higher Anderton Road and the B3247, and is expected to run from Monday 28 September 2026 to Friday 16 October 2026. It is in force 24 hours a day, weekends included, not just during working hours.

The order itself gives Cornwall Council legal cover to keep the road closed for up to eight months, though the works are expected to be finished well before that, by 16 October 2026.

While it is in force, no vehicle and no pedal cycle may enter or proceed along that stretch of road, except on the direction of a police constable in uniform or a vehicle working on the scheme itself. There is an exemption for genuine emergencies, such as a loss of gas, electricity or water supplies to properties in the area, so an emergency vehicle can still get through if it needs to. Pedestrian access to properties along the closed section will be maintained throughout.

The diversion route

An alternative route will be signed on site for the length of the closure. According to the order, it runs via Higher Anderton Road, Grenville Road, The Parade, King Street and Millpool Road, before picking up the B3247 around Maker and back onto Higher Anderton Road. Applicants and contractors are responsible for putting up, maintaining and removing all the necessary signs for the traffic order themselves.
