Cornwall weather: Tuesday 29 September, 24°C before rain sweeps in

Make the most of the sunshine when it breaks through today, because Cornwall is in for a real change of mood before Wednesday morning. The Met Office’s regional weather forecast for South West England, which covers Cornwall, has warm sunshine giving way to heavy overnight rain and a strengthening wind.

Today (Tuesday 29 September)

It is a grey start across the region, with patchy light rain or drizzle to shake off first. Things turn brighter by lunchtime, especially in the east, with some sunshine coming through, and it feels warm wherever the sun gets out. The regional high reaches 24°C.

The catch comes later in the day, when rain returns to the far west and the wind begins to strengthen. So the far west of Cornwall is likely to lose the brightness before anywhere else.

Tonight

The evening starts dry in the east, but rain already sitting in the west spreads across the whole region through the night. It turns heavy at times, with the wind strengthening alongside it, before clearing to showers later on. The overnight low is around 12°C.

Wednesday

Those showers quickly become confined to the far west on Wednesday, leaving most of Cornwall with a largely dry and bright day. It turns a little cooler, though it still feels warm in the sunshine, and the wind eases down after the overnight blow. The high is 22°C.

Thursday to Saturday

Thursday clears its early showers to leave sunny spells. Rain returns on Friday, before it turns drier and brighter again on Saturday once early fog has cleared. Temperatures settle back nearer to the average for early October.

So today’s 24°C is the warm high point before a more changeable stretch takes over. The pattern of brightness, then rain, then brightness again is the one to watch as the week runs on.
