Newquay and Dinard mark 40 years of twinning with garden ceremony

Forty years ago, a charter was signed that tied Newquay to a coastal town in Brittany. This month, the people who have kept that link going are inviting everyone to a small garden on Cliff Road to mark it.

The Newquay Twinning Association will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the charter that formalised the twinning link between Newquay and Dinard with a special ceremony in Dinard Garden, Cliff Road, on Sunday 11 October at 2.30pm.

Two coastal towns, four decades of friendship

Dinard is a coastal town in Brittany, in northwestern France, and shares many similarities with Newquay.

The association says the twinning relationship has brought the two communities together through friendship and cultural exchange over the past four decades.

What is happening on the day

Visitors to the ceremony will be able to explore a display of garden and twinning archives from across the decades, offering a look back at the history of the relationship between the two towns.

There will also be a tombola as part of the afternoon.

Refreshments at Salt’d Cafe afterwards

Once the ceremony is over, everyone is invited to join the Newquay Twinning Association at Salt’d Cafe on Cliff Road for light refreshments and a chance to carry on the celebrations.

Who can come along

The event is open to all. The association is welcoming residents and visitors to come along, find out more about Newquay’s longstanding connection with Dinard and help celebrate 40 years of friendship.

The ceremony begins at 2.30pm in Dinard Garden on Cliff Road.
