Cornwall weather: Saturday 3 October, showers clear for a 22°C Sunday

Pack for two seasons in one weekend. Cornwall starts Saturday under heavy showers, cools off fast enough overnight for mist and fog, then wakes up on Sunday to one of the warmest days of the month. If you only get outside properly once this weekend, make it Sunday. Here is how the weekend’s weather looks across the region.

Today, Saturday 3 October

Largely cloudy this morning, with showery outbreaks of rain that turn heavy at times. The Met Office headline is a simple one: heavy showers in places. The afternoon looks kinder, turning drier for most with sunny spells breaking through and light winds, though the odd isolated heavy shower cannot be ruled out wherever you happen to be. The top temperature reaches a mild 21°C.

Tonight

A real change once the sun goes down. Skies stay clear and it quickly turns chilly, with the temperature dropping all the way to 3°C. Mist and fog patches form in the usual prone rural spots by the end of the night, so expect a cold, murky start in the valleys if you are up early.

Sunday 4 October

The pick of the weekend by some distance. Any overnight mist and fog gradually clears to leave a dry day with plenty of warm sunny spells and light winds across the region. The temperature climbs to 22°C, the warmest in this forecast and a proper late burst of warmth for October.

The week ahead

The settled warmth does not hang around. From Monday into the middle of next week it turns largely cloudy again, with showery outbreaks of rain returning at times. There will still be some warm, brighter spells mixed in, but the direction of travel is downhill, with conditions gradually turning cooler by the end of Wednesday.
