St Just captain’s house with views to Scilly goes to auction

At the far western end of Cornwall, a house once lived in by a captain looks out over open countryside and on towards the sea and the Isles of Scilly. It has grand rooms, a walled garden and a bungalow next door. What it needs now is someone willing to bring it back.

Kenython House, in Kenython Lane, St Just, is coming up for sale with Clive Emson Auctioneers, with a freehold guide price of £575,000 plus. It is among 169 lots listed in England for the firm’s November online auction, which concludes on Thursday 5 November.

It is one of 14 Cornish lots in the sale. You can see every one, with guide prices and photos, in our full round-up of Cornwall’s November auction lots.

What comes with it

The four-bedroom house is set on 3.51 hectares (8.67 acres). Alongside it is a three-bedroom bungalow called Seascape, which has been used as a holiday let in the past.

The sale also takes in a number of fields, a walled garden, a double garage and a potting shed.

“Grand proportions throughout”

Senior auction appraiser Katie Semmens said: “This is an exciting opportunity to acquire a former captain’s house in a remote location with beautiful views over open countryside and out to sea towards the Isles of Scilly.

“Kenython House offers grand proportions throughout while Seascape provides good size accommodation and has been utilised as a holiday let in the past.”

The property is being auctioned jointly with Andrew Exelby Estate Agents. It is Lot 79, and it carries the highest guide of the 14 Cornish lots in the sale.

Katie added: “It would make a fantastic project for someone looking to restore a beautiful property back to its former glory.”
