The CHOUGHS Return with ‘Appointment With Macdeath’ in Support of Cornwall Wildlife Trust

A local operatic society is promising one of its funniest productions to date as it returns to the stage with a new pantomime this February.

The CHOUGHS, which stands for Cornwall Healthcare Operatic Unprofessional Generally Humorous Society, are back following last year’s sell out show, praised by one critic as “totally laughable”.

Blending Christie with the Bard

This year’s production is titled Appointment With Macdeath and is described as blending Agatha Christie “with a beard, with the Bard”.

According to the group, the original aim was “a biting political satire playing under a subtle tearjerking romance”. However, they admit: “Well that didn’t work, but a bloke I met did mutter ‘Yeah it was great, whatevs… now where’s that drink?’”

The society also pokes fun at itself, noting that a stellar cast could not make it down from London, the band were described as live a few years ago, and the special effects are “not very”.

Audience members are advised that some adult humour is included.

All ticket proceeds from the show will go to Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
