Bodmin Feast brings street food and a soul DJ to Mount Folly

A summer evening in the middle of Bodmin, the smell of burgers on the grill drifting across Mount Folly, and a soul soundtrack to go with it. That is the pitch for the next Bodmin Feast Street Food Evening, back on Friday for a few hours of eating, drinking and standing about in the sunshine.

The event runs at Mount Folly from 4pm until 9pm, with organisers hoping the weather holds long enough to fill the square outside Shire Hall with tables, traders and families.

Burgers, cakes and cones on Mount Folly

The line-up leans into the things that travel well in one hand. There are juicy burgers and other street food to sit down with, homemade cakes and sweet treats for anyone with room afterwards, and ice cream for the warm end of the day.

A pick and mix stall covers the pockets of small change, and there are refreshing drinks on hand to wash it all down. It is the kind of spread built for grazing across an evening rather than one big sit-down meal.

The traders lining up

Bodmin Feast pulls together a rotating cast of independent Cornish traders. Recent evenings have featured Xander’s Diner serving loaded burgers, Sweet Dreams Pick & Mix with its lit-up sweet cart, Jake’s turning out cookies, brownies, flapjacks and savoury bakes from the back of a van, Whip n Dip with freshly whipped ice cream, and The Rhubarb Roller pouring cocktails from a converted horsebox bar.

The organisers are asking people to bring friends and family, grab something tasty, and support the local businesses trading on the night.

A soul soundtrack for the evening

Music comes from DJ The Soul Reverend, back by request to run the soundtrack through the evening. The promise is a mix of tunes to keep the atmosphere going while people eat, drink and settle in for a few hours.

The Street Food Evening takes place at Mount Folly, Bodmin, on Friday 7 August, from 4pm to 9pm. Entry is free and you pay the traders directly on the night.
