Bodmin litter pickers couldn’t quite believe what they found
A shopping trolley. A dog cage. A hoover. And that was before anyone started counting the bags.
Volunteers from the Bodmin Tidy it Team set out on Wednesday (4 November) from a new starting point, Margaret’s Crescent, and spread out over a wide area of Bodmin. By the end they had filled 21 bags of rubbish and 10 bags of recycling.
“We couldn’t quite believe it,” said Gilly, writing on behalf of the group.

A pile nobody expected
Alongside the bags, the team gathered a huge pile of larger items. The haul included the shopping trolley, the dog cage and the hoover, plus guttering, a stair gate, scooters, a blanket, vapes and plenty of plastic and metal items.
It was hard going. The group spent the session pulling heavy trolleys and carrying loads of rubbish, and Gilly said they still felt the cold.
The people behind the pick
Karen, Gordon, Anne, Gary, Nigel, Peter, Andy D, Debs, Mandy, Andy V, Lindsay, Trish, Tom, Sue, Max, Jeremy and Paul all turned out for this week’s clean-up.
The group also thanked Biffa and Clean Cornwall for their support.
Where to find them next week
The next pick is on Wednesday 11 November. Volunteers will meet at 9.45am towards the top of Trelawney Road.
“We all find it very rewarding making a difference to our town, come and join us!” said Gilly.
