Thousands of Years of History Land at Bodmin Jail This Summer

Inside one of Cornwall’s most haunting historic buildings, something a bit different is taking shape this summer. Thousands of LEGO bricks are being assembled into Concordes, castles, Vikings and moon landings, and the public will soon get to see it all up close.

Bodmin Jail will host Brick History, a major LEGO exhibition running from 24th June to 8th September 2026.

What’s on display

The exhibition has been created by LEGO artist Warren Elsmore and his team, and it takes visitors on a journey through the people, events and inventions that shaped the world. Ancient civilisations, Viking invasions, the moon landings, the fight for equality and scientific breakthroughs all feature, recreated in brick form.

Among the standout models are Concorde, the Titanic, and a medieval castle measuring more than 1.5 metres wide. The castle includes scenes of both everyday life and historic conflict, with detail packed into every corner.

Themes covered

Brick History explores five main themes: The Arts, Conflict, Equality, Exploration and Transport. Each display is built to capture the imagination of both children and adults, with storytelling running through every piece.

A fitting setting

Bringing the exhibition to Bodmin Jail offers something a bit unusual. Visitors will be able to wander the jail’s cells and absorb its stories, then see how LEGO bricks have been used to reimagine global history within the same walls.

Built in 1779, Bodmin Jail is one of Cornwall’s most significant historic landmarks and now operates as an immersive heritage attraction.

Brick History runs at Bodmin Jail from 24th June to 8th September 2026.
