Omaha Road in Bodmin shut all week after burst water main

Drivers heading through this part of Bodmin have had to find another way round since the start of the week, after a burst water main forced the full closure of a residential road.

Why Omaha Road is closed

Cornwall Council’s streetworks team has approved an emergency temporary closure of Omaha Road under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to allow South West Water to carry out repairs to a burst main. The closure is described as an emergency measure, which is why it went in with immediate effect rather than the usual advance notice period.

How long the closure will last

The road has been shut around the clock, 24 hours a day, since Monday 7 September, and is due to remain closed until Friday 11 September 2026. Cornwall Council notes the works are already in progress, and the dates could still move if the repair takes longer than expected.

Signage and who is responsible

South West Water and its contractors are responsible for putting up, maintaining and removing all the necessary closure signs and diversion signage along the route, and for letting anyone directly affected know beforehand, including residents, businesses and anyone who needs to make deliveries or collections on Omaha Road while the works continue.
