Saltash Children Offered Free Books for World Book Day

A local housebuilder is marking World Book Day with the launch of a pop up library at its Treledan development in Saltash.

From Thursday 5th March, children across the town are invited to collect a free storybook from David Wilson’s Treledan site. The pop up library has been installed outside the development’s show complex and will offer a selection of brand new children’s titles on a first come, first served basis.

Among the books available is Don’t Wake the Bear, Hare!, with families encouraged to visit and pick a story to take home.

Built by Apprentices

The library itself was completed by David Wilson’s own apprentices, who hand painted it navy blue before it was installed at the development.

The housebuilder is also asking local residents to donate unwanted or outgrown children’s books to help keep the shelves stocked for other young readers in Saltash.

Encouraging a Love of Reading

Richard Lawson, Sales Director for David Wilson, said: “At Treledan, we take great pride in building thriving communities that enhance the character and appeal of Saltash — which is why we are delighted to unveil our thoughtfully curated pop-up library.

“We recognise that access to books plays a vital role in nurturing literacy, imagination and a lifelong appreciation of reading. Yet for some children, owning books is not always a given. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire a love of literature from an early age and help ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover a story of their own.

“We encourage local families in Saltash to visit Treledan and exchange a book of their choosing, celebrating the simple joy of sharing stories within our community.”

About Treledan

Treledan is located around two miles from Saltash railway station, providing links to Plymouth. The development also sits close to a play area and Ofsted Outstanding schools, making it suitable for growing families.
