Battle of Stratton Memorial closed for restoration until 2027

If you had a walk out to the Battle of Stratton Memorial pencilled in, you will need to hold that thought for a while. The monument, which marks one of the more significant clashes of the English Civil War in Cornwall, is about to be closed off while specialists set to work preserving it.

What is happening

Bude-Stratton Town Council has confirmed that the memorial is due to undergo specialist restoration to help preserve the historic monument. Access has been temporarily restricted for safety reasons while the necessary permissions are obtained and the restoration project is carried out.

Private land, no public right of way

The memorial sits on private land, and there is no public right of way to it. The council has been clear that the landowner has kindly allowed people to visit in the past and intends to welcome visitors back once the work is finished. For now, though, the site is off limits.

When it reopens

The restoration is expected to be completed by spring 2027. The council thanked people for their patience and understanding while the conservation project progresses.
