Bude firefighter David Hales earns his black diamonds
There are two small black diamonds now fixed to the back of Firefighter David Hales’s helmet, and at Bude Community Fire Station they mark the end of a long stretch of work.

Out of probation and fully competent
Firefighter David Hales has completed his development assessment and earned his black diamonds. The diamonds are worn on the back of a firefighter’s helmet, and they signal one thing to everyone on station: the person under it is fully competent and out of probation.
Dave’s diamonds were presented by Station Manager Parkyn. Getting to this point took a huge amount of work and commitment, and he is now a fully competent member of the Bude crew.
The station summed it up in three words as it passed on its congratulations: “Well deserved, mate.”
