One of Bude‘s lifeguards has been down the coast in Newquay, spending a week in the surf with women who do the same job on beaches all over the UK. And she ended up on the telly while she was at it.

Lifeguard Millie represented Bude at the RNLI Women in Lifeguarding training week, which was hosted by Newquay RNLI. Bude RNLI Lifeguards shared the news along with a set of photos from the week, offering “huge congratulations” to their colleague.

A week on the water in Newquay

Lifeguards from across the UK gathered for the event. The aim, according to the Bude team, was to share knowledge, hone leadership skills and “get stuck into some serious water time”.

The surf played its part. Conditions were described as ideal throughout the week, and the group got out on a range of craft. That included rescue boards, inshore rescue boats (IRBs) and rescue water craft (RWCs).

Talks from women leading the way

It was not all time in the water. The Bude team said the week was “made even more impactful by inspiring presentations from women leading the way across the RNLI and partner emergency services”.

Millie also featured on local BBC News during the week.

What Bude’s lifeguards said

The team thanked everyone involved in organising what they called “such a valuable week”, and thanked Newquay RNLI for hosting.

“Here in Bude, we are incredibly proud of our female lifeguards and can’t wait to see how the Women in Lifeguarding initiative continues to grow and inspire,” they said.
