Imerys Fundraisers Visit Cornwall Air Ambulance Base in Newquay

A group of fundraisers from Imerys recently visited Cornwall Air Ambulance, marking more than ten years of support for the life-saving charity.

The visit gave the team the chance to meet the crew and take a look inside the helicopter often described as a “flying intensive care unit”, which remains on constant standby for Cornwall.

A Decade of Fundraising Support

Imerys colleagues have been backing Cornwall Air Ambulance for over a decade, regularly organising fundraising events for their chosen charity.

Last year alone, staff raised nearly £5,000. The total came from activities including a step challenge held in September and a UK team bowling night in St Austell.

Environment, health and safety manager Genna Bray, PA Michelle Millbanks and IT team leader Mark Cockayne joined Mark Hewson, who leads Imerys in the UK, for the visit to the charity’s base in Newquay.

Meeting the Crew

During their time at the base, the group had the opportunity to speak with the team behind the service and see first-hand the helicopter used to respond to emergencies across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Julia Jeffery, corporate partnerships manager for Cornwall Air Ambulance, said:

“It was great to welcome some of the Imerys team to our base in Newquay and we are very grateful for their fantastic fundraising efforts. It’s thanks to the incredible support of organisations such as Imerys and the generosity of the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly that our crew can continue to be there for those who need us the most.”

‘A Privilege’ to See the Service Up Close

Mark Hewson also shared his appreciation after meeting the crew and learning more about the work they do.

He said:

“It was such a privilege to talk to this team of incredible people who save lives daily. I think we were all secretly very keen to have a look inside the helicopter- thankfully not as part of an emergency.

“Huge thanks to this vital charity for everything it does, day in and out – all year round – for both residents and visitors. We look forward to continuing our support over the years to come.”

Cornwall Air Ambulance relies on donations and fundraising to keep its helicopter and medical crew ready to respond across the county and the Isles of Scilly.
