There is a particular kind of satisfaction in picking up a bottle of conditioner you actually recognise for the price of a packet of chewing gum. Poundstretcher is betting that feeling will pull shoppers through its doors, with a new campaign putting some of the biggest names in the supermarket aisle on the shelf for less.

What’s in the "Love the Brands. Love the Prices." campaign

The nationwide push brings household-name brands into Poundstretcher stores at prices starting from 69p, with hundreds of products included and new offers being added regularly. Among the deals currently on the shelf:

  • Toni & Guy Damaged Hair Conditioner 250ml – 69p
  • Walkers MAX Paprika crisps 140g – £1.35
  • Rowntree’s Jelly Tots 120g – 89p
  • Kellogg’s Coco Pops 4x20g – 99p
  • Colgate Zigzag Triple Pack Medium – £1.79

The wider range spans market-leading names including Radox, Rowntree’s, Kellogg’s, Vaseline, Colgate and Wilkinson Sword, and Poundstretcher says selected lines are priced up to 30% cheaper than other discounters and some supermarkets. The offers run alongside a limited-time promotional leaflet and a £2.50-off coupon for shoppers who spend £15.

Why now, according to the boss

Andy Atkinson, CEO at Poundstretcher, said household budgets continue to be under real pressure and that "every penny counts," but that customers still want the brands they know, trust and love, just at knockout prices. He said the campaign is designed to deliver exactly that, adding that with some of the offers it will be a case of "when it’s gone, it’s gone," so shoppers who spot a good one should grab it while they can.

Where to find it in Cornwall

Poundstretcher’s Cornwall footprint has grown fast over the past couple of years, and the "Love the Brands" range is landing in all of it. The chain currently trades from six stores across the county:

  • Truro – Pydar Street, in the former Next unit
  • Camborne – Trelowarren Street
  • Helston – Coinagehall Street
  • Bodmin – town centre
  • Launceston – Launceston Retail Park, Hurdon Road
  • Newquay – Bank Street, in the former Poundland unit

The Newquay and Launceston stores are the newest, both opening this year in units left empty by Poundland’s closures, with the Newquay branch throwing open its doors on Bank Street at the end of July. For the full current list and opening times, Poundstretcher’s own store finder lets shoppers search by postcode or town.

Part of a bigger push onto the high street

The pricing campaign lands during a period of expansion for Poundstretcher, which has opened 15 new stores nationally in the past three months, creating more than 150 jobs in the process. The retailer says the growth reflects its commitment to investing in the British high street, growing its store estate, and making its combination of big brands and low prices accessible to more shoppers.

New big-brand offers will keep being added to the range, which is one more reason to check what has landed on the shelf before it disappears again.
