Saltash play area sells for £250 as Lezant cottage fetches £150,000
For less than the price of a weekend away, someone now owns a small corner of Saltash.
A former play area was one of five Cornish lots to sell when Clive Emson Auctioneers’ November online auction closed on Thursday (5 November). A cottage near Launceston, a row of parking spaces and two town centre buildings also found new owners, and three of them went well beyond their guide prices.
The lots were among 174 listed in England for the sale.

A cottage with countryside views near Launceston
The biggest price of the Cornish lots was paid for a detached three-bedroom cottage at Penscombe Cross, Lezant, on the edge of a village near Launceston. It sold freehold for £150,000.
Auction appraiser James Lofthouse said: “The new owner has acquired a house with plenty of potential.
“While in need of improvement and renovation, it benefits from off-road parking and numerous outbuildings and is located in a peaceful edge-of-village setting where it adjoins open countryside with great views.
“The new owner may wish to occupy the property themselves, use it for lettings or place it back on the market following works.”
The property was auctioned in arrangement with View Property.
Saltash play area sold for £250
At the other end of the scale, Highfield Park play area at Latchbrook, Saltash, sold freehold for £250.
Cornwall Council instructed the sale of the parcel of land, which measures about 0.016 hectares (0.04 acres).
Nine St Austell parking spaces beat their guide
A row of nine car parking spaces on Grants Walk in St Austell town centre drew strong bids before selling for £48,000. That’s nearly £20,000 above their freehold guide of £30,000 plus.
James said: “Car parking spaces and lock-up garages tend to do well at auction, whether for personal use or for investment.
“These spaces in St Austell were no exception and attracted keen bidding with the final sale price comfortably exceeding the guide.
“Historically, the spaces have been rented on licences at £400 per annum so the new owner has the opportunity to gain a rental income from their purchase or they may have another scheme in mind, subject to the necessary consents.”
The parking spaces were auctioned jointly with Alder King Property Consultants.
