St Ives Rugby Football Club held a special thank you event last Saturday, 19th April, bringing together the businesses and volunteers whose support has helped keep one of Cornwall’s oldest clubs on the pitch.

A Season to Remember

The “thank you day” at the St Ives RFC clubhouse gave guests the chance to enjoy drinks and lunch before watching the first team’s final home game of the season, a win against Truro. The event marked the end of a campaign in which 42 businesses have partnered with the club in a variety of ways, from advertising boards and kit sponsorship through to services donated as gifts in kind.

Russell Baragwanath, St Ives RFC Chair, said: “St Ives Rugby Club is extremely grateful to all of the businesses and volunteers that support the club. St Ives RFC is very much at the heart of the community and it was wonderful to invite everyone that supports us into the club to thank them properly.”

Russell added: “With over 40 sponsors currently supporting St Ives RFC, it was wonderful to see so many at the clubhouse this Saturday, along with volunteers that have supported us over the years.”

Why It Matters

The financial backing has come at a particularly important time, with significant development work currently underway at the grounds and clubhouse. Sponsors have also helped attract more visitors to match days, boosting the atmosphere at the club.

The support comes from businesses across a wide area, from St Austell and Truro to Penzance and Gweek, as well as companies operating across Cornwall and beyond.

Many of the business partners attended the event and confirmed they are pleased with their sponsorship and intend to renew for next season.

140 Years and Counting

St Ives RFC has a history spanning more than 140 years. The club has played a central role in the town, developing players, supporting youth rugby, and hosting community events ranging from christenings to weddings.

Russell said: “Inviting our sponsors to a special lunch is a small way that we can show our appreciation and we would like to extend our thanks to each and every one of our business partners who help to keep our club running.”
