Vincents breaks ground on Cullompton branch in 60th year

The family firm behind Cornwall’s Fraddon machinery branch is marking 60 years in business by building itself a new permanent base, and the work has already started.

A new base just off the M5

South West agricultural, construction and groundcare machinery dealer Vincents broke ground this month on a purpose-built branch in Cullompton, just off the M5. The third-generation, family-run business supports customers across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, and the new site is its biggest investment in its 60th anniversary year. It is due to open in spring 2027.

The location puts Vincents close to established rural retailers such as Mole Valley and on key routes used by many of its customers. The new freehold branch will include larger workshops, improved staff and customer facilities, and a showroom carrying an extensive range of machinery from brands including Kubota, Merlo and Kverneland.

Bringing two sites together

The Cullompton branch will combine Vincents’ existing Smithaleigh and Wellington operations into a single, modern, permanent site. Both will stay fully operational throughout the build, with all roles transferring across when the new branch opens.

For Cornwall customers, little changes day to day. The Cullompton site will operate alongside the established branches in Fraddon and Holsworthy, with the expansion aimed at supporting growth in Devon and Somerset.

Brothers Alec and Nick Vincent, third-generation managing directors, said the freehold move was a deliberate long-term decision.

“As we reach our 60th year, this investment is about securing the right long-term base for our Devon and Somerset operations,” they said. “Moving to an owned freehold site is a key strategic step for us, giving us the capacity and stability to support customers and continue growing for the long term.”

Three generations still on the books

Vincents started life in 1966 as a tractor engineering workshop. It has since grown into a full-line dealership supplying and servicing agricultural, groundcare and construction equipment across the South West, and it is the only dealership in the region offering the full Kubota range. Its stock of new and used machinery runs from balers and disc mowers to robotic mowers, excavators, dumpers and telehandlers.

Founder Ken Vincent’s principle of “service at the centre of everything” still shapes the business, and both the first and second generations remain actively involved, with Paul and Ken Vincent still on board.

Service stays in the field

The company’s service model, including overnight parts delivery, will not change. Most support will continue to happen at customers’ own premises rather than at a branch.

“As a family business, maintaining that day-to-day consistency of service is incredibly important to us,” Nick and Alec said. “Our teams will continue to operate out in the field, with the Cullompton site giving us the space, facilities and infrastructure to support that even more effectively.”
