Callington Town Council is looking for a new councillor

There is a chair around the table at Callington‘s Town Hall with nobody sitting in it, and the town council wants to hear from whoever might fill it.

What the role actually involves

Callington Town Council is asking residents to come forward for a vacant seat as a town councillor. No membership of a political party is needed. The council says it wants people of every age, background and skillset, so that it properly reflects the community it represents. The only real requirements are some spare time, enthusiasm and commitment.

Councillors meet three times a month, on the first, third and fourth Tuesday evenings. Business is split across four committees: Planning, Outside Services, Town Hall, and Finance and General Purposes. A Full Council meeting is held every fourth Tuesday, bringing everything together.

How to apply, and the September deadline

Anyone interested can request an application form by phone on 01579 384039 or by emailing [email protected]. Forms can also be collected in person from the Town Hall on New Road, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 2pm, or downloaded directly as a co-option application form.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4 September 2026.

What happens after you apply

Applicants will be invited to the Full Council Meeting on Tuesday 22 September 2026, where the vacancy is expected to be filled. Because the seat is being filled by co-option rather than triggering a fresh election, it is the sitting council itself that will decide who takes the chair.
