Petition Gains Support

The petition, organised by BID Camborne and submitted to Cornwall Council, is asking for a rule that would ensure no more than one road closure takes place within a square mile of any Cornish town at the same time.

It comes in response to what has been described as significant disruption caused by current works in Camborne, including the closure of two key junctions affecting local businesses.

Originally launched online, the petition has attracted enough interest that paper copies are now being printed to allow more people to sign.

Concerns Over Roadworks Process

Anna Pascoe, BID Camborne manager, said: “Utility companies are often bypassing the proper twelve-week application for closures by classing infrastructure works as urgent, when in fact they are routine.”

Anna Pascoe continued: “This means, for example, that a broadband company can dig up and close a street one week with little or no notice, followed by a water company doing the same thing a couple of weeks later. It’s inefficient and costs businesses and local people considerable time and money.

“We want to see much greater adherence to the application rules and a ban on more than one planned road closure at a time not just in Camborne but in any Cornish town.”

How to Sign

Businesses wishing to support the petition can sign online by emailing [email protected] with their business name, business address and contact name.

Paper copies are also available to sign at Wilson’s Café & Takeaway, Jojangles and Cornwall Air Ambulance on Trelowarren Street.
