A Camborne secondary school has been handed national recognition for the way it gets students moving, both in lessons and after the bell.

What the award recognises

The School Games Mark is a national award given to schools that go above and beyond to promote physical activity, offer a wide range of sporting opportunities and make sure every student can take part.

For CSIA, the gold rating reflects work done across the past academic year to encourage participation in sport, both inside lessons and through a wider programme of activities available outside the timetable.

MP’s response

Perran Moon, MP for Camborne and Redruth, wrote to the school to congratulate staff and students on the result.

In his letter, Perran said the award was “a testament to your school’s commitment to supporting all children to be physically active on a daily basis” and praised the efforts of everyone involved.

He pointed out that opportunities to be active at school matter most for children who are less likely to take part outside the school day, adding that the work going on at CSIA is helping to improve life chances for young people.

“We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Gold School Games Mark. This recognition reflects the commitment of our staff and the energy and enthusiasm of our students, who embrace the wide range of opportunities to be active and get involved in sport across the school.”

CSIA is a secondary comprehensive in Camborne and is currently rated Good by Ofsted for Quality of education, Behaviour and attitudes, Personal development and Leadership and Management, and Outstanding for its Sixth Form provision.
