Camborne town centre Post Office to close, and what happens next

If you post your parcels, pay your bills or pick up your travel money in the middle of Camborne, your routine is about to change.

The Post Office inside TG Jones at 9 Commercial Square is closing on Monday 23 November, according to Camborne, Redruth and Hayle MP Perran Moon, who says the Post Office has confirmed the date.

It leaves Camborne town centre without a Post Office counter for the time being. A replacement is being looked for, but Perran says that process will run until the end of March.

Where to go once the Commercial Square branch closes

Perran has set out two alternatives for customers, depending on what they need.

Banking and bill payments

Post Office customers can make banking transactions and bill payments at the new Banking Hub at 6 Trelowarren Street.

Letters and parcels

For post, the next nearest Post Office is at 30 Tehidy Road.

Will Camborne town centre get a new Post Office?

That is the plan, though it will not be quick.

“In terms of a replacement Post Office in Camborne town centre, expressions of interest have already been received but the process of application and review of suitable new premises will take until the end of March,” Perran said.

He added that he has already held meetings with the Post Office about “the importance of a town centre Post Office to the local community”.

What happens between now and then

Perran says he will be in regular contact with the Post Office in the months ahead and will post updates on progress on his Facebook page.

He also pointed residents to the Post Office consultation hub, which he says contains more information about the Commercial Square closure.

“Rest assured, I will be in regular contact with the Post Office between now and then,” he said.
