The Premier League trophy is about to spend a day in Commercial Square. On Saturday 1 August, Fonehouse Camborne will have football’s biggest prize on display in-store, and it is one of only six Fonehouse outlets in the whole country chosen to show it off.

One of only six in the country

Owner Ian Gilbert is not hiding his excitement about the visit.

“Seeing the trophy on television is one thing, but being able to see it up close in our shop is frankly amazing,” he said.

The display comes through a tie-up between Sky and Fonehouse, part of Sky’s current push to promote its TV and broadband packages. With more than fifty Fonehouse stores across the UK, being one of six selected is something Ian sees as a genuine honour.

“There are more than fifty Fonehouse stores throughout the UK so to be one of only six chosen for the honour of showcasing the Premier League Cup feels truly incredible,” he said.

Free goodie bags for football shirts

People can come in throughout the day to see the trophy, and there is a small reward for turning up in your colours.

“People can come in throughout the day to see it, and we’ll be handing out free goodie bags to those wearing a football shirt,” Ian said. “Stocks are limited, though, and it will be one bag per family.”

A Camborne business milestone

Ian has run his mobile phone business in Camborne for nearly twenty-five years, and Fonehouse Camborne picked up the Fonehouse Franchise of the Year Award in December 2023. Born and brought up in Hayle, he is Chair of BID Camborne and a vocal supporter of the town.

“Fonehouse Camborne is one of the top performing businesses in the Fonehouse network,” he said. “I’m very proud of our achievements here and being selected to display football’s biggest trophy feels like an accolade for the town, as well as for us.”

“I look forward to welcoming as many people as possible on Saturday 1 August for what, I’m sure, will be a very memorable occasion.”
