Rosewarne Car Parks to Provide One Hour Free Parking During Town Centre Works
Camborne is set for a small but welcome boost in the new year, with one hour of free parking coming to the Rosewarne car parks from Monday, 5th January. The offer will run until the end of May while highways work takes place in the town centre as part of the Town Deal’s Renew scheme.
Support for the Community During Road Restrictions
The free hour is being introduced to help people continue visiting the town centre while parts of Camborne face temporary vehicle restrictions. The works form part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, designed to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists and enhance the look and feel of the town.
Project lead Kieren Couch said: “Whilst we will be working closely with our partners to keep disruption to a minimum, we recognise that the restrictions will temporarily affect local businesses, residents and visitors to the town. We hope that providing one hour of free parking will encourage people to continue to visit the town centre during this period.”
Both Rosewarne Short Stay and Rosewarne Extension car parks will offer the first hour free, but all motorists, including blue badge holders, must still obtain a ticket or use the Just Park app on arrival. Usual charges apply once the free hour ends. The offer applies only to Cornwall Council run Rosewarne car parks, with normal charges remaining elsewhere in Camborne.
What the Renew Scheme Will Deliver
The Renew scheme aims to improve the environmental aspect of Camborne town centre with several upgrades, including:
• Adding new seating and greenery
• Improving pedestrian crossings along Trelowarren Street
• A new zebra crossing at Fore Street
• Extending free on-street parking at the top of Trelowarren Street from 30 minutes to 1 hour
• Repairing paving defects in Commercial Square
• Installing enhanced lighting and CCTV
• Providing cycle parking
Work on the first phase began in November in New Connexion Street. The second phase, covering Commercial Street and areas around the town square, is expected to start in early January. This will include several short-term road closures, with diversion routes clearly marked. Pedestrian access will remain in place throughout, and deliveries will be allowed as close to businesses as possible.
Schedule Through Spring
The works are planned to continue into the spring, with arrangements being made to ensure the road is clear for Trevithick Day. After Trevithick Day, the remaining surfacing and imprint paving is due to be completed by the end of May.
