Tykes on Trikes returns to Camborne with a change of date

Face paint dried, helmets buckled, and for one morning Trelowarren Street belonged to the smallest riders in town. Camborne’s youngest cyclists were back out on two wheels (and a few on three) for this year’s Tykes on Trikes races, pedalling hard down the town centre street in front of family and friends.

Before a single wheel turned, there was plenty to keep competitors busy. Free face painting drew a queue of its own, and young riders got the chance to have a proper look at a fire engine parked up for the occasion. Only once helmets were fastened did the racing begin, with entrants pedalling down Camborne‘s Trelowarren Street in the heart of town.

The event is organised by the BID Camborne team, and this year it moved a month earlier in the calendar to make the most of the extra daylight on offer.

Why the date moved

“Parents fed back that the lighter morning and milder weather made a big difference,” said Anna Pascoe, BID Camborne Manager. “There were a good number of entries, and everyone enjoyed themselves.”

It is a formula that has clearly found its audience. “We started Tykes on Trikes in 2021 to mark the Tour of Britain passing through Camborne that September and it’s been growing in popularity ever since,” Anna said.

Volunteers, sponsors, and Camborne’s community spirit

None of it happens without help from behind the scenes. “The help we get from our volunteers and sponsors is invaluable and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them all on behalf of BID for their time and generosity,” Anna said. “As always, Camborne’s close community spirit shone through.”

This year’s sponsors were Tyacks Hotel, Fonehouse Camborne, Camborne Games, No 64 Bys Vyken Running and A Darn Good Yarn.
