What Camborne students asked MP Perran Moon

Housing, immigration, devolution, national security. Give a room full of Camborne sixth formers an hour with their MP and the questions do not stay small for long.

Students studying A-level Politics and the Cornwall School of Liberal Arts (CSLA) at Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) welcomed local MP Perran Moon for a Q&A on the political issues affecting Cornwall, the UK and the wider world.

From devolution to the cost of living

The students put their questions directly to the Labour MP. Topics on the table included devolution for Cornwall, housing and the cost of living, immigration, climate change and electoral reform.

National security, the environment and the future of local communities also came up.

Life as an MP

The session also looked at the job itself. Students heard about life as an MP and the routes into a career in politics, giving them a chance to connect their studies with the experience of an elected representative.

Perran Moon has represented Camborne and Redruth in Parliament since July 2024.

Learning beyond the classroom

The visit gave students the chance to question an elected representative face to face and engage with current political issues through discussion and debate.

Events like this are part of the wider A-level Politics and CSLA programme at Camborne Sixth Form, which gives students opportunities to explore subjects beyond the curriculum through discussion, debate, visiting speakers and enrichment.

What the school said

Emma Haase, Principal of Camborne Science and International Academy, said: “It was fantastic to see our students putting such thoughtful questions to Perran Moon and engaging with such a wide range of issues.”

“Opportunities like this allow them to take their learning beyond the classroom, test their ideas and deepen their understanding of the world around them. We are very grateful to Perran for giving his time to answer their questions.”
