Young Carbis Bay Paddlers Take On a 24 Hour Round the Clock Challenge

A group of teenagers from Carbis Bay is preparing to spend a full day and night on the water, paddling in hourly shifts until the 24 hours are up.

When and where

The challenge runs from 12pm on 17 July until 12pm on 18 July, based at the Ocean Sports Centre in Carbis Bay.

Who is taking part

The paddlers belong to the Ocean Sports Youth community, a group of young people aged 13 to 17. They will take on the sponsored paddle in shifts, heading out every hour in groups of three, keeping the effort going right around the clock for the full 24 hours.

A year of building skills

Over the past year the group has worked on their paddling, and on their confidence, teamwork and independence alongside it. In April 2026 they entered the 3 Creeks Race in Helford, paddling and steering their own boats as a junior crew. It is believed to be the first time in the UK that a junior group has competed in this way.

Why they are paddling

The group is aiming to raise £8,000. The money will pay for two new outrigger canoes and Ilaku, the bespoke wooden struts that hold the outrigger in place. Together the new kit will let the club’s youth members take on a self-led voyage along the Cornish coast.

Beyond the voyage, the fundraiser is about keeping the programme going and growing, so more young people in Cornwall can get out on the ocean and feel the social, physical and mental benefits that come with paddling.
