Bodmin firefighter Luke Hodge named Pride of Britain winner

For twenty years, Luke Hodge spent his spare time raising money in his father’s memory rather than talking about it. That quiet, steady effort has just been recognised on a national stage.

Two decades of Alstock

Luke Hodge, a firefighter at Bodmin Community Fire Station, has spent the past 20 years organising Alstock Festival in memory of his late father. Over that time the festival has raised more than £100,000 for local charities.

Colleagues describe him as a caring, selfless and generous person who is always willing to give his time to others, whether through his work, his fundraising, or simply being there for people who need him. He does it, they say, asking for nothing in return.

The end of an era for Alstock

This year, Luke made the difficult decision to bring Alstock Festival to a close, as he takes on increased caring responsibilities at home. The festival itself has finished, but the money it raised, and the people it helped along the way, carry on.

A Pride of Britain win

That two decades of quiet effort has now been marked with a major national honour. Luke has been named West Country’s 2026 Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year, receiving the award surrounded by family, colleagues from the fire and rescue service, and fellow Alstock organisers.

“You are a truly deserving winner,” Bodmin Community Fire Station said in tribute to Luke.

Congratulations came in from across the station and beyond, signed off simply: “from all at 7.1.”
