Can you beat The Chase’s Shaun Wallace at Hawkins Blackwater?

The man known to millions as The Dark Destroyer is swapping the quiz show chair for a slot car controller this August, and he is daring Cornwall to beat him. Shaun Wallace, one of the professional quizzers from ITV’s The Chase, is coming to Hawkins Blackwater for a charity challenge in aid of Cornwall Air Ambulance. Turning up is free, beating his lap time is the hard part.

A quiz legend on a Scalextric track

On Tuesday 4th August, Hawkins Motor Group will host The Shaun Wallace Charity Challenge, opening the site to the local community for an afternoon and evening of friendly competition. It runs from 2pm to 9pm, and the whole thing is raising money for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The centrepiece is a specially built Scalextric track, put together with the support of Think Scalextric. Visitors can meet Shaun in person and then take him on, racing a miniature version of Hawkins’ Cornish Tartan car around the circuit with one goal in mind. Beat Shaun’s fastest lap.

More than the track

The racing is only part of the day. Guests can also have a go at a putting competition, cornhole and a 60-second rowing challenge, with local food and drink served on the forecourt. Anyone curious about a new car can browse the latest models from Hawkins’ brands, including Hyundai, Nissan, MG and Citroën.

Every penny raised goes to Cornwall Air Ambulance, supporting the crew who provide emergency care to people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

How to take part

There is no need to book. Entry is free, donations are encouraged, and visitors can simply turn up on the day, take part in the challenges and meet Shaun, who the organisers say is always happy to stop for a selfie.
