Classic Cottages Supports Bolenowe After Storm Goretti Damage

A Cornish animal sanctuary is rebuilding after Storm Goretti tore through its site earlier this year, leaving significant damage in its wake.

Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary, based near Ruan Minor on the Lizard Peninsula, cares for more than 70 animals, many of which have suffered from cruelty, sickness or neglect. In January, staff say the storm hit the 30-acre site “like a hurricane”, flattening three field shelters, a stable used for goats and a section of brand new fencing that had only been completed last summer.

Fundraising Appeal Launched

Following the damage, the charity launched a public fundraising appeal to help cover the cost of replacing the destroyed shelters and restoring safe cover across the site.

The sanctuary is run by a small team of staff and volunteers and relies entirely on public donations and fundraising to continue its work.

Louise Coad, Charity Administrator at Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary, said:

“Storm Goretti caused extensive damage to a number of our field shelters, with some completely destroyed by the high winds. These shelters are important in giving our rescued horses and ponies protection from the worst of the weather when they are out in the fields. As a small, self-funded charity, the cost of replacing them is significant, which is why we launched a fundraising appeal to help cover the repairs. We’re very grateful to Classic Cottages for their generous support and donations like this make a real difference to the animals in our care.”

£500 Donation From Classic Cottages

Holiday letting business Classic Cottages has donated £500 towards the appeal, helping the sanctuary move closer to its fundraising target.
