A day out on the fairway has ended with more than £23,000 heading towards children, young people and families supported by a hospice charity in the South West. Barratt Bristol, the housebuilder currently working on two developments across Cornwall, turned its annual golf day into a fundraiser for its charity of the year, and the final figure climbed well beyond the day’s own takings.

More than £23,000 raised on the fairway

Barratt Bristol hosted the charity golf day at The Bristol Golf Club in support of Children’s Hospice South West, a local charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of children and young people living with life-limiting conditions.

Over 100 employees, subcontractors and suppliers teed off in an 18-hole competition, raising £11,630 on the day. That sum was match funded by The Barratt Redrow Foundation, bringing the total to £23,260.

The charity behind the day

Founded in 1991, Children’s Hospice South West provides hospice care for babies, children and young people in the region living with life-limiting conditions, alongside wider support for their families.

The charity creates tranquil settings with quiet reflective spaces, sensory gardens and specialist play equipment, aiming to support families in their care for up to 10 years.

Amanda Gallagher, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as charity of the year for Barratt Homes and supported through the recent golf day. We are looking forward to a great partnership over the coming year, getting to know the team and sharing more about Children’s Hospice South West and how we support children and families across the South West.”

‘Such an important cause’

The golf fundraiser is one of several initiatives backed by the Barratt Redrow Foundation, which focuses on creating lasting social value through volunteering, partnerships and grassroots support across the UK. Since its launch in 2021, the foundation has donated more than £20 million to more than 1,700 local and national charities.

Mark Dee, Commercial Director for Barratt Bristol, said: “Supporting local charities is a key part of what we do at Barratt Bristol, and we’re incredibly proud to have raised such a fantastic amount for Children’s Hospice South West through our annual golf day.

“It was brilliant to see so many of our employees, subcontractors and suppliers come together in support of such an important cause. The generosity and enthusiasm shown on the day was outstanding, and thanks to the match funding from The Barratt Redrow Foundation, the total raised will make an even greater difference to the children, young people and families supported by the charity.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part, donated or helped organise the event. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Children’s Hospice South West and supporting the incredible work they do across the region.”

Barratt Bristol is currently building homes at two sites across Cornwall.
