Gemma’s Fundraising Hits £1,572 as Auction Nights and Bingo Add to the Total
With just one week left of her popular quiz nights at The Borough Arms in Bodmin, Gemma Wotherspoon is ramping up her fundraising efforts for Cornwall Air Ambulance. Thanks to incredible community support, she has already raised £1,572 – closing in on her original £2,000 target and now aiming for £2,500.
Why Cornwall Air Ambulance? A Personal Story
Gemma’s passion for supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance comes from a deeply personal experience. In 2016, her son stopped breathing and had to be airlifted to Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske). The air ambulance got him there in just minutes—far quicker than the 40-minute journey by road – making a crucial difference to his recovery.
That life-changing moment inspired Gemma to take up running, and now, in 2025, she’s set to complete the Cornish Marathon in aid of the service that once helped her family.
“I have been running since 2016, and I will do a marathon in 2025 for Cornwall Air Ambulance,” she says. “Any donation will help me with my training and running the marathon.”
Auction Nights to Boost Fundraising
Next on Gemma’s fundraising calendar are two auction nights, hosted in collaboration with Ashley Rowe, the manager of The Borough Arms. Supporters can place bids either before or on the night, with payments made via her JustGiving page.
Several generous businesses and individuals have donated items for the auction, including:
- Two £25 Escape Room vouchers
- A family swim pass
- Cinema passes for two
- A family pass to Kernow Slides
- Moose Toys has also stepped in to support the cause, donating 25 toys to help raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance.
Bingo Night Returns
Following the success of her previous fundraising events, Gemma has also arranged another bingo night at The Borough Arms. With a fantastic selection of prizes up for grabs, the event promises to be another fun-filled evening for a great cause.
Quiz Night Wrap-Up
Over the past three weeks, Gemma’s quiz nights at The Borough Arms have raised £244, bringing people together to test their knowledge while contributing to lifesaving emergency services.
How to Support Gemma’s Fundraising
With her marathon training still in full swing and fundraising events continuing, Gemma is calling on the community to get involved. Whether it’s attending an event, donating an auction item, or making a contribution via JustGiving, every bit of support makes a difference.
