Marie Curie Needs Volunteers in These Four Cornwall Towns
An hour a month. That is the smallest commitment Marie Curie is asking for as it looks to build up its fundraising groups across Cornwall in 2026.
The charity supports people at the end of life and their families, and it needs local volunteers to keep that work going. Some help is hands-on at events. Some of it happens around a table at a group meeting. Either way, the message from the charity is that you can give as much or as little time as you have.
What the roles involve
Marie Curie is recruiting treasurers, secretaries, collection hosts and general fundraising group members. Full training is provided for treasurers, so no experience is required to take that on.
The roles run from helping organise group meetings to getting stuck into events and collections out in the community.
Boconnoc, the Padstow to Rock swim and the Great Daffodil Appeal
Volunteers help plan and hold events right across the county. Those include the Marie Curie day at Boconnoc and the Padstow to Rock swim.
Then there are the collections. The Great Daffodil Appeal is the charity’s best-known fundraising drive, and Marie Curie wants people to help with it and other collections through the year.
Where the volunteers are needed
The charity is looking for people all over Cornwall. It has flagged four areas in particular:
- Newquay
- Bude
- Liskeard
- Truro
Why people get involved
Marie Curie lists a handful of reasons. Volunteers support people at the most difficult time in their lives. They meet like-minded people in their own community. They pick up skills, training and experience along the way. And the roles are flexible, fitting around whatever time someone can spare.
How to get in touch
Anyone who wants to find out about opportunities in their area can contact community fundraiser Quinta Carlyon on 07515134440 or email quinta.carlyon@mariecurie.org.uk.
