Musical Theatre Fundraiser Supports Cancer Research and Support Services
A summer celebration with a powerful purpose
Hundreds of musical theatre fans from south east Cornwall, Plymouth and west Devon turned out in force on Sunday 20th July to support Ever After! – a special one-off performance hosted at Sterts Arts and Environmental Theatre in Upton Cross.
The show, packed with Broadway and West End favourites, raised an impressive £5525.92 for Cancer Research UK and The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Derriford Hospital. The money has been split equally between the two charities.
A packed theatre and a powerful performance
The audience, gathered in the summer sunshine, were treated to a vibrant mix of emotional and comic moments as performers delivered songs from classics such as Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia and more.
The stage was filled with talent from a wide range of community groups, including:
-
PGS Theatre Productions
-
No Walls Musical Theatre Choir from Plymouth
-
Dance for Life Devon CIC
-
Sterts Singers
-
Teylu Theatre Company
Cream teas and cakes, served up by volunteers, added to the atmosphere of the day.
Real stories behind the spotlight
Some of the performers shared personal stories of cancer, adding depth and emotion to the fundraising event.
The show was organised and directed by Mark Sidey, whose mother was diagnosed with cancer last year. Mark said, “I’m thrilled by the success of the event, which demonstrated the power of community spirit coming together to support such important causes. I am eternally grateful to everyone involved in putting the concert together and for the money raised for the two charities.”
The Liskeard Local Committee of Cancer Research UK described the show as very enjoyable and a great success, saying it was absolutely delighted at the amount raised for cancer research.
Support continues
While Ever After! was a one-day event, its impact will be felt far beyond the summer stage, as donations go directly towards vital support and research services for those affected by cancer.
