Gerrans and Tywardreath Schools Receive Butterfly Education Kits

Two Cornwall primary schools are about to watch one of nature’s odder transformations happen in front of them.

The giveaway

Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, founder and chair of Connect with Nature, gives away Butterfly Education Kits to primary schools across Cornwall every year. The idea is to show children why butterflies matter to the ecosystem and to let them follow the life cycle up close.

This year two schools have been chosen. Mrs Grant’s class at Gerrans School and Mrs Hannaford’s class at Tywardreath School have each been handed a kit.

What it’s for

The kits are designed to raise awareness of the part butterflies play in the natural world and to give pupils a first-hand look at how the insects develop.

Rowena runs the scheme through Connect with Nature, and it returns to different schools across the county each year.
