Ofsted Accreditation for Camp Cornwall Provider Porthpean Outdoor

Porthpean Outdoor, the provider behind Camp Cornwall, has achieved Ofsted accreditation following a recent inspection. For a business that has run outdoor education, school residentials and summer camps for more than 70 years, it is a formal stamp on something it has been doing for decades. The accreditation is being described as a seal of approval, one meant to give parents reassurance that their child will be in safe hands.

What the accreditation actually changes

The headline for most families is financial. Now that Camp Cornwall holds Ofsted accreditation, parents can put childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare payments towards their bookings.

As Camp Director Seth Rutterford puts it: “We have spent 70 years delivering incredible outdoor education experiences to young people across the southwest, priding ourselves on quality and care. I’ve worked in schools myself and completely understand the need to be able to place the utmost trust in anyone providing a service for a child. This Ofsted accreditation recognises our ambition, solidifying our offering and providing complete assurance to parents.”

Seth said the change has also opened the camp up to more families: “It has also made our sessions more accessible which we are really excited about. Having an Ofsted accreditation means that families can use childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare payments towards any bookings with us, enabling even more young people to experience the outdoors, something we have strived to offer for several years.”

A camp built around getting outside

Based on the south coast of Cornwall, Porthpean Outdoor runs activities for children aged 8 to 14. The idea is for them to learn new skills, build confidence, get back to nature and switch off from busy modern lives.

Camp Cornwall is part of that offering. It runs day and overnight options throughout August under the banner of an all-inclusive Ultimate Adventure Camp, with action-packed itineraries and meals that can be tailored to suit dietary needs.

Children staying over sleep in bunkhouse tents. These come with off the floor beds, coffee tables, bean bags and board games, spaces designed for curling up after a busy day spent in the great outdoors.
