Coastguard called to Lansallos Beach as person struggles to breathe

Published On: 8 August 2026Last Updated: 8 August 2026By

Lansallos Beach is not a place you stumble on by accident. You reach the shingle cove on foot, through a gate and down a steep path that winds between two green headlands on the south Cornwall coast. On the afternoon of 3 August it was where Polruan Coastguard were sent to help someone who could not catch their breath after coming out of the sea.

What happened at the cove

The team were tasked at 13:35 to a report of a person struggling to breathe after being in the water at Lansallos Beach. They arrived in good numbers and carried out a thorough assessment of the casualty before giving the care needed on the scene.

The casualty’s condition improved while the team were with them. Once things had settled, the Coastguard passed on advice for onward care and were then stood down. They returned to station to prepare for the next tasking.

If you see someone in trouble on the coast

The advice after a call like this does not change. If you spot someone in difficulty on the coast or in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

By the time the message went out, the Polruan team were already back at station, kit checked and ready for whatever the rest of the day brought.
