Coastguard help unwell walker near Pordennack Point, Land’s End

The sky over Land’s End was on fire when the call came in. On the evening of Thursday 31 July, as one of the summer’s more spectacular sunsets lit up the horizon, the Land’s End Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was sent out to help someone who had been taken unwell out on the cliffs.

What happened

The team was tasked at 20:28 to assist an unwell person on the coast path between Greeb Farm and Pordennack Point, a stretch of exposed ground on the approach to Land’s End itself.

Rescuers located the casualty and helped them along to the Land’s End Hotel, which gave the team a quiet room to use while they waited for an ambulance.

Once the South Western Ambulance crew arrived, the coastguard team completed a full handover with the paramedics and left the scene a short time later. It was the team’s 28th callout of the year.

The stretch of coast around Land’s End draws thousands of walkers through the summer, and the ground can be unforgiving once you are off the main paths. The coastguard’s message is a simple one.
