Cornwall Community Unites to Support Refugees with Recycled Bicycles
In a display of community spirit and collaboration, The Cornwall Bicycle Project CIC, based in Saint Austell, has facilitated the recycling and donation of four bikes to refugees in Cornwall. This initiative, a testament to the power of working together across different organisations, saw local community members generously donate bicycles, which were then refurbished by the mechanics at Cornwall Life Recycle.
The refurbished bikes have been donated back to the community, specifically aimed at aiding refugees in Cornwall, through a partnership with Cornwall Council’s refugee support team. This gesture not only promotes sustainable living through recycling but also offers practical support to refugees, helping them gain a sense of independence and facilitating easier access to local services and employment opportunities.
The Cornwall Bicycle Project CIC and all organisations involved have expressed their joy in seeing the positive impact of their collaborative effort. The project not only exemplifies the community’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also its dedication to welcoming and supporting those in need.
As the bikes find new owners among the refugees in Cornwall, the project organisers hope this initiative will encourage more people to cycle, promoting both physical health and environmental benefits. “Happy cycling everyone,” they shared, highlighting the simple joy and freedom that cycling can bring to our lives, especially for those who are starting anew in a new community.
