Kernow Gymnastics rises from fire to open new Indian Queens home

Step onto the red floor at the new Kernow Gymnastics & Acro Academy and the first thing that hits you is the space. Wall to wall matting, bars and beams under a soaring roof, and barely a trace of what it took to get here. On Sunday 6 September the club throws its doors open to mid Cornwall for a proper look around.

A new home in Indian Queens

The academy has left its old base in Summercourt for a purpose-built facility at Units B-C, Plot 6, A30 Business Park, Lodge Way, Indian Queens, TR9. The bigger premises mean the club can now take on more children from the local community than its previous site allowed.

To mark the move, the club is holding an Open Day on Sunday 6 September, running from 10am to 3pm.

What’s on this Sunday

The day is billed as one for the whole family, with families, friends and future gymnasts all told they are welcome. On offer across the day:

• The Hawkins Cornish Tartans car on display
• A pizza trailer
• A coffee trailer
• Games and activities for families
• Gymnastics and acro activities
• Free classes and the chance to look round the gym

There are stalls and games running throughout, alongside the free taster classes, so visitors can get a feel for the sport as well as the building itself.

Grown-ups welcome too

It is not only a children’s club. Kernow Gymnastics & Acro Academy also runs adult gymnastics sessions, open to anyone who fancies having a go themselves rather than just watching from the sidelines. The Open Day is a chance to find out more about those sessions directly from the coaches on site.

Built from the ashes

The new facility carries more weight than a simple change of address. The club was hit by a devastating fire that forced the business to be rebuilt from the ground up, and the Indian Queens site is the result of that rebuild.
