Somewhere in Cornwall right now, a patch of green is being weeded, planted or tidied by someone who isn’t being paid to do it.

Those people have just had their thank you. Cormac recently hosted a series of volunteer thank you events to celebrate the people who give their time to caring for local green spaces and communities across Cornwall.

Talks, a plant swap and Gardeners’ Question Time

Guests heard talks from Budding Nature, while one of the events also featured a popular Gardeners’ Question Time and a plant swap.

From pasties to a cream tea

No Cornish gathering would be complete without food. Refreshments were served at every event, ranging from pasties at one to a traditional cream tea at another.

Why the volunteers do it

The Cormac team also asked volunteers what the work means to them. Their answers were simple.

“Looking after these places helps with mental health,” said one.

Another said they volunteer “to improve the biodiversity in our local area and to try and engage more people in growing food.”

And one volunteer turned the thanks back the other way: “Thanks to Cormac for all the support, help and positive approach to the environment.”
