Minister for Veterans and People, Alistair Carns MP Visits South East Cornwall To Meet Local Heros
Anna Gelderd, MP for South East Cornwall, welcomed Alistair Carns, Minister for Veterans and People, to Torpoint today for crucial discussions with local veterans. The visit aimed to highlight the challenges veterans face in rural areas and explore ways to enhance support services, housing security, and access to essential resources.
Torpoint’s Role in National Defence
Torpoint, celebrated for its rich naval heritage, was described by Anna as “vital to national defence and the backbone of South East Cornwall’s military heritage.” The town’s deep connections to Devonport Dockyard further underscore its importance to both local and national interests.
Anna said:
“It was a privilege to welcome the Minister to our special corner of Cornwall today to meet some of the brave individuals who have served in our armed forces.
“Labour stands firmly behind our veterans and armed forces personnel, recognising their immense contribution to our country. I am proud that Torpoint continues to play such a key role in our national defence, and I will continue to champion the economic importance of Devonport Dockyard for our local community.”
Minister Pledges Government Support
During the visit, Alistair praised Anna for her dedication to championing veteran issues and acknowledged the critical role communities like Torpoint play.
