North Cornwall MP Ben Maguire Wants Lifetime Animal Abuse Bans

Some animal abusers should never be allowed near a pet again. That is the message North Cornwall’s MP has taken to Parliament.

Calls for a ‘lifetime ownership ban’

Ben Maguire, the Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall, has called for tougher action against the worst animal abusers. He wants the Government to bring in lifetime pet ownership bans for anyone convicted of deliberately inflicting serious harm on an animal.

Speaking during a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament, Ben Maguire argued that people who torture or sadistically abuse animals should never be allowed to own another pet. He also backed stronger sentencing powers so the justice system can deal more effectively with the most serious offenders.

His contribution came during a debate inspired by ‘Holly’s Law’, a campaign calling for stronger protections against animal cruelty following the killing of a family pet. During the session, Ben Maguire intervened on fellow Liberal Democrat MP Dr Danny Chambers, who has previously introduced anti-puppy smuggling legislation.

‘The most violent and sadistic in our society’

Ben Maguire said:

“Those who deliberately torture or seriously abuse animals should never be trusted with another pet. We need much stronger sentencing powers, and where someone has committed the most horrific acts of cruelty, the courts should be able to impose complete ownership bans.

“On behalf of the animal rights activists in my North Cornwall constituency, I’ll be doing EVERYTHING possible to protect animals from repeat offenders, who are among the most violent and sadistic in our society.”
