A Spitfire and a Star: Warwick Davis Visits Cornwall Airport Newquay
Cornwall Airport Newquay had a rather extraordinary day this week, welcoming not one but two very special visitors: a historic Supermarine Spitfire and actor Warwick Davis.
The aircraft is part of a UK-wide tour organised by Spitfires.com to mark the 90th anniversary of the legendary fighter plane, which was first flown in 1936. The Spitfire remains one of the most iconic aircraft in British aviation history, and the tour has been designed so that each flight represents a decade of its remarkable legacy.
A Living Tribute to Aviation History
This particular aircraft has been painted in the colours of the original prototype, making it a striking and powerful tribute to nine decades of Spitfire history. The tour is taking the aircraft to locations across the UK throughout April.
For Newquay, the visit carries an added layer of significance. The airport has its roots as RAF St Mawgan, and the arrival of such a historic machine was described by the airport as a proud nod to that heritage.
Warwick Davis Joins the Occasion
Adding a touch of the unexpected to the day, Warwick Davis was also on site for the visit. The actor spent time with the airport team, met the pilot, and got up close with the aircraft.
The airport marked the occasion as a special moment connecting past with present, and one that clearly made an impression on everyone involved.
