Winter sun without the long slog up the A30 to Bristol or Exeter. It is coming to Cornwall Airport Newquay, and there are only two dates on offer.

Cornwall Airport Newquay has teamed up with award-winning tour operator Murray Travel to run direct package holidays to Tenerife in March 2027. The deal gives local residents the chance to fly straight to the winter sunshine from their nearest airport.

The holidays go on sale today, Thursday 4th June 2026, at the Royal Cornwall Show. There are two departures to pick from, both leaving Newquay on a Friday: 5th March 2027 and 12th March 2027.

Why Tenerife, and why now

The programme was put together after strong demand from local travellers who wanted more holiday destinations they could reach directly from Cornwall. Tenerife and the wider Canary Islands have regularly been among the most requested winter sun spots for passengers using the airport.

The packages are operated by Murray Travel and are fully ATOL-protected, which gives customers the financial protection that comes with booking through an established UK tour operator. They are available to book exclusively through Murray Travel.

The new flights also mean holidaymakers can avoid the extra time, cost and hassle of travelling to airports such as Bristol or Exeter, and start their holiday much closer to home.

Building on a sell-out Lapland trip

The launch follows previous charter holiday programmes from Cornwall, including Murray Travel’s Lapland day trip, which sold out in just six days after going on sale.

Nigel Scott, Commercial Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: “As Cornwall’s gateway to the UK, Europe and beyond, strengthening connectivity for our communities remains at the heart of what we do. By partnering with Murray Travel to offer direct flights to Tenerife, we’re giving residents another exciting holiday option from their local airport while continuing to support Cornwall’s economy and long-term connectivity.”

Scott Murray, Director at Murray Travel, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Cornwall Airport Newquay to offer these new direct Tenerife departures in March 2027.

“The response to our Lapland day trip from Newquay has been incredible, and it has shown us just how much appetite there is locally for convenient, direct flights to exciting destinations.

“Tenerife remains one of the UK’s favourite holiday spots, so we’re really pleased to be able to offer this short trial programme and give customers in Cornwall and the surrounding area the chance to fly straight from their local airport.

“We see this as a brilliant opportunity to build on the success of Lapland and we’re excited to explore connecting Newquay further in the future.”

A busy spell for the airport

The route arrives during a period of strong international growth for Newquay. International passenger numbers rose from 74,069 in 2022 to more than 203,900 in 2024. In April 2026, international passengers made up 66% of total traffic, up from 54% a year earlier.

You can find the latest on routes and partners on Cornwall Airport Newquay’s flight network.

Scott described the Tenerife flights as a short trial programme, with the door left open to more direct routes from Newquay if they prove popular.
