Cornwall Airport Newquay warns of Boardmasters travel delays

Flying out of Newquay in the first half of August? The drive to the airport could take longer than you think, and it has nothing to do with what is happening in the terminal.

Why your journey could take longer

Cornwall Airport Newquay has asked anyone travelling between 5 and 10 August to build extra time into their trip. The reason sits just up the coast. Boardmasters Festival draws tens of thousands of people to the area, and the roads around Newquay feel it.

The airport expects heavier traffic and possible delays across those dates, with three days standing out as the busiest: Wednesday, Friday and Monday. Those tend to be the big arrival and departure days for the festival crowd, which is exactly when airport passengers are trying to use the same roads.

What will actually change on the roads

This is more than just extra cars. Temporary road closures and one-way systems come into force around the festival, so the route you normally take to the airport may not be open, or may only run in one direction. A journey that usually flows can suddenly bottleneck, and a diversion you did not plan for can eat into your check-in window.

What to do before you set off

The airport’s advice is straightforward. Check the Boardmasters Traffic Management Plan before you travel, work out which roads are affected, and pick your route around them rather than trusting your usual one on the day.

Leave earlier than you think you need to, especially if your flight falls on the Wednesday, Friday or Monday. A buffer of extra time is cheaper than a missed flight.
